Speech Communication: Resource Evaluation

More

Evaluating Resources

As you engage in research and scholarly studies, it is important to critically asses sources to determine relevance to your research question, and assess overall quality of information.  How do you decide whether the information you found is credible and reliable?  The “CRAAP” test is a simple tool you can use to determine if a source is trustworthy. You can use the test to evaluate all types of information sources such as books, journals, magazine articles, websites, or social media. While the CRAAP test is a useful tool, students are encouraged to seek out scholarly/peer reviewed sources whenever possible to ensure accuracy, validity and quality of information.

CRAAP Test Check List

The CRAAP Test, a method for evaluating the reliability of information, was developed by Sarah Blakeslee and her team of librarians at California State University, Chico (CSU Chico).
