Library Resources in Canvas: Streaming Video from the Ozuna Library

The library e-resources are provided by a variety of vendors. Because the of this, there is some variation in presentation, permissions, and the extend to which they can be added Canvas.  This page provides instructions for adding videos to Canvas from the library's streaming video collections.

Academic Video Online (Alexander Street)

Add Video to a Module

  1. Log into Canvas and select the class
  2. Click + in the Module/Assignment where the video is to be added
  3. Select External Tool >Source (name of video database) Alexander Street Video
  4. Enter the title of the video or search for a video by topic 
  5. Preview the video and if you decide you want to use the video:
  6. Click Embed  OR if you prefer to only put a link,
  7. Click Return Link > Add Item
  8. Save and Publish

Films on Demand (Films for the Humanities)

Add Video to a Module

  1. Log into Canvas and select the class
  2. Click + in the Module/Assignment where the video is to be added
  3. Select External Tool > Source (name of video database) Films on Demand
  4. Enter the title of the video or search for a video by entering the topic in the search box  
  5. Preview
  6. Click the Embed button of the video and select a video size (medium works best)
  7. Click Save and Publish

Kanopy Video

Add Video to a Module

  1. Open the Kanopy database
  2. Enter the title of the video or search for a video by entering the topic in the search box
  3. Click on the Share below the selected video
  4. Click on Copy Link under the header Copy Embed This Video
  5. Log into Canvas and select the class
  6. Click + in the Module/Assignment where the video is to be added
  7. Click on the cloud icon, paste the embed code, and click Submit
  8. Below the frame where the film was placed click on "</>" to make the html code visible
  9. Take off the <p> at the beginning and end
  10. Click Save or Save and Publish

Digital Theatre +

Add Video to a Module

  1. Open the Digital Theatre database and search for a video
  2. Log into Canvas and select the class
  3. Click + in the Module/Assignment where the video is to be added
  4. Click Add Item/Edit >Cloud icon> and paste embed code template (noted below)

       6. Return to the video that you selected

            in the database, click Share, and copy

            the video URL.

      7. In the embed code line labeled src=, 

           replace the default URL (in yellow)

           by pasting your selected video URL, and click submit.

      8. Below the window where the film was placed, click on "</>" to make the html code visible again.

      9.  Take off the <p> that was added at the beginning and end of the code

     10. Click Save or Save and Publish
