According to the Cambridge Dictionary satire is "a way of criticizing people or ideas in a humorous way, especially in order to make a political point, or a piece of writing that uses this style" and parody is "writing, music, art, speech, etc. that intentionally copies the style of someone famous or copies a particular situation, making the features or qualities of the original more noticeable in a way that is humorous". Both styles have been used for centuries to safely critique and call out the absurdity of those in power, both people and institutions.
Fabricated content is "New content that is 100% false, designed to deceive and do harm". Fabricated content can do a great deal of harm, very quickly. However, since it is 100% false, it is often easier to recognize than some of the other misinformation strategies. If something sounds unusual, out of the norm, or obviously wrong, double check with other reliable sources. If only one source is saying something, the odds are that it is not true.
False context is a very damaging form of misinformation, it involves "content that is genuine but has been reframed in dangerous ways". Some examples of this are misleading article titles that predispose people to think about the true information in certain ways. Or genuine images where the context is reframed or warped entirely. False context is more difficult to debunk because the information or images is true, but the circumstances surrounding them have been altered.
Manipulated content occurs when "an aspect of genuine content is altered". This form of misinformation is primarily aimed at images or video. The most common ways content is manipulated is by photoshopping multiple images/videos together, removing vital parts of an image/video, or adjusting the speed of a video in ways that alter the meaning of the media.
Imposter content "Falsely uses a well-known name, brand or logo to fool people into believing that it is authentic content". One of the best most recent examples of this is when X, previously known as Twitter, started charging for blue check marks and stopped authenticating users. There were false accounts created of politicians promoting the other party and there were false accounts of well-known brands behaving inappropriately. Imposter content can be difficult to find due to how it mimics legitimate people and corporations.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary propaganda is "information, ideas, opinions, or images, often only giving one part of an argument, that are broadcast, published, or in some other way spread with the intention of influencing people's opinions". Propaganda is often equated with politics and some people believe that it is a neutral form of misinformation. This is due to it being used successfully during several wars, particularly WWII, to bring a nation into internal solidarity against a common foe. These people tend to ignore the fact that the other side of the conflict used the same arguments, the same propaganda, to win over their people as well.
