The Ethics of Abortion - When Does Life Begin?

The controversies surrounding abortion involve a clash between two fundamental rights: the right of the unborn child, or fetus, and the rights of the mother. This film begins with the storm created by leading case of Roe vs Wade and then provides students with an unbiased analysis of the ethical issues underlying demands for the criminalization and the legalization of abortion.

Life And Death In Texas: Abortion Frontline Of America

New Texan anti-abortion laws are putting women’s lives at risk, according to pro-choice campaigners. But pro-life activists claim they are protecting women from an out-of-control abortion industry. Leah Green visits the state as the battle over women’s bodies intensifies.

Abortion: The Choice

While abortion will no doubt polarize our society for the foreseeable future, students can learn a great deal from the circumstances, anxieties, and life goals that surround the decision to end a pregnancy. This program presents a poignant and profoundly honest look at that decision through intimate discussions with young British women.

The Abortion Divide

Abortion: Stories Women Tell

Though the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade protected a woman’s right to choose, abortion remains one of the most divisive issues in America today. In the last several years, many states have imposed restrictions on access to abortion, including Missouri, where only one abortion clinic remains open in the entire state, and where patients and their doctors must navigate a 72-hour waiting period. In Abortion: Stories Women Tell, awarding-winning director (and Missouri native) Tracy Droz Tragos sheds new light on this contentious issue, focusing not on the debate, but rather on women themselves. Centering on the Hope Clinic for Women (just across the Missouri state line in Granite City, Illinois), the film profiles women struggling with unplanned pregnancies, providers who show up at the clinic to give medical care, and activists hoping to sway decisions and lives, offering an intimate window into the lives of women involved in the abortion issue, whose experiences are by turns heartbreaking and tender or bleak and frightening. On whichever side of the issue they fall, choices are made based on individual circumstances and beliefs, and the film underscores the strength and capacity of women to overcome and persevere through complicated and unexpected circumstances

Hidden Meanings of the Culture War over Abortion in the US

This article examines the dispute over abortion in the United States, within a broader context of the transition between the industrial era and the postindustrial, globalized model.

Fake Clinics--or Fake Feminism?

The article discusses the protestors who held competing rallies for the Supreme Court to hold oral arguments on National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra, a free-speech case involving abortion. It states that the case is the culmination of a long harassment campaign against pro-life pregnancy centers, organized and supported by a coalition of abortion activists and profiteers such as NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood.

The Rise of DIY Abortions

The article looks at abortion and abortion policy in the U.S. as of 2013, focusing on an increase in the incidence of self-induced abortions by pregnant women. It recounts the case of Jennie Linn McCormack, an Idaho woman who took abortifacient drugs ordered online, hid the aborted fetus, and now faces related felony charges. It notes that while legal, abortion services are hard to access for many U.S. women, citing factors including geographic distance and cost. It cites the option of safe early-stage medication abortions at home using the drugs Cytotec (Misoprostol) and Mifeprex (Mifepristone or RU-486). U.S. state prosecutions of women for medication abortions are discussed.

Reproductive rights are human rights. Everyone should be able to determine if, when, how and with whom to start or grow a family.

Reproductive freedom is the essential right of everyone to plan their futures and control their destinies. It means access to safe, legal abortion and affordable contraception. It means protecting pregnant workers from workplace discrimination. And it means supporting working parents by guaranteeing paid family leave. At NARAL Pro-Choice America, we fight to protect and expand these rights at every level of government

Pro-abortion forces began working, in the 1960s, to weaken protections for unborn children. State right-to-life groups began forming to work against these efforts; it quickly became clear that there was a need for a national organization to serve as a place to share information and strategies. The National Right to Life Committee was formed in 1968 to fulfill that need.

The ultimate goal of the National Right to Life Committee is to restore legal protection to innocent human life. The primary interest of the National Right to Life Committee and its members has been the abortion controversy; however, it is also concerned with related matters of medical ethics which relate to the right to life issues of euthanasia and infanticide.

Often maligned, but nevertheless, a good source for women's and LGBTQ+ members' health, far beyond contraception. These health centers provide a wide range of safe, reliable health care — and the majority is preventive care, which helps prevent unintended pregnancies through contraception, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections through testing and treatment, and screen for cervical and other cancers.--from their website
