One in 5 Texas women and 1 in 20 Texas men have been the victims of sexual assault. Only 18% of victims report their assault to law enforcement. This includes 20% of females and 12% of males. In Texas, only 1 in 10 sexual assault survivors seek medical treatment.

Victim’s Relationship
The most significant number of sexual assault victims (in relation to the offender) were: female acquaintances (17.6%), other female family members (11.7%), female friends (7.9%), girlfriends (7.1%), female strangers (7.1%), unknown females (6.7%), otherwise known females (6.8%), daughters (5.6%), and stepdaughters (5.1%). Most sexual assault victims were non-family members (54.4%), while 45.6% of victims were related to the offender.
Victims
Incidents of sexual assault in 2018 involved 20,592 victims. Of the victims whose sex was known, 11.9% were male and 88.1% were female. The age group with the highest number of victims was the 10 to 14 year-old bracket. For the victims whose race was known, 81.8% were White, 17.1% were Black, and 1.2% were American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian, or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.
Offenders
In 2018, 20,532 offenders were involved in incidents of sexual assault. Of the offenders whose sex was known, 95.6% were male and 4.4% were female. The age group showing the highest number of offenders was the 15-to-19 year- old bracket.

FVPS provides residential and non-residential services to families affected by domestic violence in south central Texas, including 24-hour emergency housing, transitional housing for families, legal services, counseling, Violence Intervention Program.
One of the readily available support options for victims of sexual assault at Joint Base San Antonio are Volunteer Victim Advocates. These dedicated, trained volunteers are available to meet with victims 24/7 and can provide support until full-time Sexual Assault Prevention and Response personnel become available.
